I live in the Philippines. I'm only 22 yrs. old and for almost 3 years now,I've been suffering from this muscular affliction on my intercostal muscles, as well as on my left shoulder. This is all due to a certain abusive habit which is obviously impossible to explain here. I just want to know what could reverse the Fibrositic Nodules or Trigger Points that have developed on my chest and shoulder muscles. I need help because the doctors here just simply dismiss my condition as a mental illness. If these palpable nodules of tightened muscles are not reversed, there's no way my fibromyalgic sufferings will end. Other than therapeutic massage, what other treatments do you think could really promote healing and lead to a cure of my condition? And, do you know if Stem Cell Therapy has already cured this kind of affliction? I need help….

Is intercostal fibrositis (I've never heard of it) somehow related to fibromyalgia? It sounds like a fancy way of saying you have knots in your muscles around your ribs! In that case it's not a real medical condition and nothing to lose sleep over, other than you want it to get better because it is painful and annoying
Fibromyalgia is real, but there is no test and no real medical treatment for it. You can help it much with massage, chiropractic, light exercise, vitamin supplements, stop smoking and stress control!!!
What "abusive habit" are you talking about? Were you abused as a child or are you talking about masturbation? That would be hilarious if you thought that was the cause, and of course masturbation can cause nothing like this.
Best luck. David.

acupuncture not as a last resort but I know people have been transformed by this rather than take a couple of co-codomals !! As if, this pain is like toothache. Any advice or knowledge of acupuncture experience will make my day, honestly.

Hi Camilla. I have a lot of thoughts on this subject, so this response may be a bit long.

First, ignore "Doobie". He has stated his unscientific 'opinion' (he cites no scientific references) on acupuncture before on this site. Here are a few references from the world's medical literature:

1) "Single point acupuncture in association with physiotherapy improves shoulder function and alleviates pain, compared with physiotherapy as the sole treatment."

2) "We conclude that limited evidence supports acupuncture use in treating pregnancy-related pelvic and back pain."

3) Many chronic health problems involve an interaction (crosstalk) between the immune system, the peripheral nervous system (PNS) and the central nervous system (CNS). "This crosstalk from PNS to CNS is involved in the pathophysiology of many human diseases and may contribute to the effects of acupuncture."

Next, I would like to discuss your 'diagnosis'. I am not sure what you mean by "fibrositis". This term does NOT reflect a real diagnosis. Fibrositis merely means "inflammation of connective tissue". It doesn't say what connective tissue is inflamed, and most importantly, it doesn't explain what is CAUSING the apparent inflammation! So, it is NOT a diagnosis - it is a LABEL.

I am guessing that by Fibrositis you are referring to what is commonly labeled Fibromyalgia (or Fibromyalgia Syndrome - FMS). Again, this is a label given to a certain pattern of pain, but it is NOT a diagnosis because it does not establish the CAUSE of the pain (4).

Lastly, it is important to appreciate that in many cases no 'real diagnosis' (that is determination of underlying cause) can be made for patients with chronic pain; thus, the commonly applied label of Fibrositis/Fibromyalgia. However, this diagnosis should not be used until all identifiable causes have been ruled out. These CAUSES include:

a) Lyme disease

b) Vitamin D deficiency (a common condition and commonly misdiagnosed as FMS)

c) Other vitamin and mineral deficiencies (again, very common with modern processed food diets)

d) Heavy metal toxicities (lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.)

e) Intestinal problems - e.g. leaky gut syndrome, bacterial dysbiosis, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, etc.

f) Food allergies

g) Celiac Disease

h) Dental problems - root canals, crowns, periodontal disease, and other dental issues that can lead to chronic infections in the bone called osteonecrosis (this problem may be much more common than is generally recognized)

i) Spinal Intersegmental Dysfunction (spinal subluxations - especially in the cervical spine for shoulder problems)

j) Essential Fatty Acid imbalances in your diet.

Suggestions:

1) Find a good acupuncturist and give acupuncture a reasonal trial

2) Find a good Chiropractor and give Chiropractic a reasonable trial

3) Have a thorough evaluation of your diet, nutritional status, and gut health by a properly trained health care provider (Chiropractor, Naturopathic Physician, Certified Clinical Nutritionist, or medical doctor trained in Nutrition and/or Functional Medicine).

4) Educate yourself more thoroughly on this subject. A good place to start would be a wonderful book by Sherry Rogers, M.D. called: "Pain Free in 6 Weeks". She discusses in detail many of the issues I have presented here. I highly recommend this book! You should be able to get it through Amazon.com.

If you are still with me - Best wishes and good luck.

For 3 yrs., I've been suffering from fibromyalgia on my left shoulder, pectoralis, and most especially on my intercostal muscles. As we have found out, this is all the result of a certain abusive habit since I was 11 yrs. old and now I'm already 22. It's really hard to explain it here. But I can say that this 'abusive habit' I'm talking about had been repeteadly strained my intercostals until the fibromyalgia had already manifested…3 yrs. ago. Now my condition have only mitigated a bit and I'm still suffering. So what I really need is for my palpable 'nodules of tightened muscles' to be reversed.

That is known as myofascial trigger points. You can read up on it in Dr. Devin Starlanyl's web site. Its complex but she has written some good books that you can read . If you cant afford to buy them maybe you could find them at the library!

i have fibrositis as well as arthritis and would like to stay away from pills as mush as possible so i was wondering about natural remedies I saw the infomercial about cures from your kitchen so thought i would ask

The Life Extension Foundation’s approach to fibromyalgia takes into account the many facets of the disease. The following supplements have been shown to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, support healthy ATP levels in cells, aid in restful sleep and digestion, and support muscle function:

Life Extension Mix—Follow label directions. Life Extension Mix provides a balanced mix of antioxidants and other nutrients.
Magnesium—160 to 500 milligrams (mg) daily
Malic acid—600 mg daily
Vitamin B6—250 mg daily. High doses of vitamin B6 can cause neuropathy (nerve damage).
Vitamin C—1000 to 2000 mg daily
Selenium—200 micrograms (mcg) daily
SODzyme—2000 mg daily. This special supplement enhances the levels of superoxide dismutase, an internal antioxidant.
D-Ribose—3 grams (g) daily
Gamma E—at least 200 mg daily
Omega-3 fatty acids—1400 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 1000 mg of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
Blueberry extract—500 mg daily
Melatonin—300 mcg to 6 mg daily
DHEA—Starting dose of 15 to 75 mg daily. Have blood tested in 3 to 6 weeks to make sure optimal levels are maintained.

Below is Life Extension's 'protocol' on fibromyalgia.

Good Luck!!
