Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects you not only physically but mentally and spiritually as well. It can be very stressful to your emotional health and you need to take care of the emotional side of it just as you would treat the physical symptoms.

Some symptoms of fibromyalgia include:

•    Muscle pain, spasms or leg cramps
•   Insomnia or waking up still feeling tired
•    Always feeling tired and having little energy
•   Being sensitive to one or more of the following, light, sound, noise, odors, foods, cold and medicines
•    Dizziness
•    Headaches
•    Upset stomach
•    A feeling of anxiety or depression

The anxiety and depression, topped with the many physical symptoms that come with this painful condition is enough to cause mental anguish and emotional stress for anyone.

Tips for Mental and Spiritual Treatment

Here are some tips to help you get through the emotional aspects of this condition:

1.   Take it one day at a time.
2.    Set small, obtainable goals.
3.   Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
4.    Set side some “quiet time” each day.
5.   Don’t forget to laugh.
6.    Get plenty of rest at night.
7.   Have fun doing something you enjoy.
8.    Spend time with the ones you love.

When you live day to day with a condition like fibromyalgia, you need to learn not to worry about the things which you can’t control and focus on those things that are in your reach. Remember that this is a major life-changing condition and it calls for many lifestyle changes. It’s okay if you don’t feel like you are adjusting quickly. Just take it one day at a time.

Try to keep things positive as much as possible and talk “positive talk” to yourself when needed. You will notice you feel much better mentally and spiritually when you relax and let loose some of the pressure.

I found that most medicines does not work to relieve symptoms.

I am a Chiropractor and have worked with many fibromyalgia patients. The most effective things I’ve seen are gentle chiropractic care, stress control, stopping smoking, good diet (I think legumes - beans, lentils, peas - and squash are very underrated and very important), multivitamins and fish oil capsules, and light exercise. Pain medicines will not help your problem except temporarily. Fibromalgia usually doesn’t go away completely, but can be very much improved with these methods in combination. Best luck. Dr. DCR.

I'm 19 and I have leg pains late at night and I can't sleep on my hips because I wake up in serious pain. How do you go about getting checked out?

I was wanting to know if there was anyone who could tell me what treatments there are for fibromyalgia. If you could name specific medicines it would be helpful. I also suffer from chronic fatigue and its ruining me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fibromylagia is believed to be a disorder of teh central nervous system.

there is NO inflammation–therefor NSAIDS and steroids are generally ineffective….

vitamins may help releive some secondary problems which will in turn help FMS–but does not act directly on FMS–

the most promising treatments are neuro in nature–

such as Lyrica and Cymbalta–Tramadol is also a pain medicine that works on teh neuro system…..

be careful with seatives–they are good for short term occassional use–i almost died because my doc pushed sedatives and didn't properlly wean me–
even Ambiem and Lunesta lose their effectiveness eventually…

has any one tryed the Vegemite cure for fibromyalgia.
how much do you use.

Fibromyalgia is a neurological disease, and a this time, there is no cure. There may be some things that people take to help ease symptoms, but they will not cure fibromyalgia.

There are many symptoms of FM that are not part of a diagnosis, and the condition can be complicated in that way. Every person is different, so each person can have some symptoms that others with FM don't have. What may help you may not work for someone else. All you can do is try it and see what it does for you, but be careful about supposed cures for it!

Good luck!

I have no way of 100 % proving that she has overdosed in the past but I know she has. She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1993 and its gone down hill from there. I feel that she is unstable and will take drastic measures. Is there a way to have her committed for her own good?

My wife was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and she is in constant pain. I don't know if eventually she'll need stronger doses of the medicines she takes, but we have to be understanding, it's a very painful illness and it takes a lot of patience and empathy from all of us involved. It would be really good if she / you could find a support group. Good luck.

If you think you may have fibromyalgia, you want treatment and you want it fast. If you have only recently be diagnosed, you might be wondering, where do I go from here?

You are not alone in this battle with this painful condition. To know if you need fibromyalgia treatment, you first need to know if you have the condition. The symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary but below are some common symptoms people experience. If you have a few of these, you may have fibromyalgia.

Some Fibromyalgia symptoms include:

•    Insomnia or waking up still feeling tired
•   Upset stomach
•    Dizziness
•   Headaches
•    Muscle pain, spasms or leg cramps
•   A feeling of anxiety or depression
•    Always feeling tired and having little energy
•   Being sensitive to one or more of the following, light, sound, noise, odors, foods, cold and medicines

Below are five steps for you to follow towards your own treatment plan.

1.    Get a diagnosis. Step one toward fibromyalgia treatment is to recognize that you have it. If you think you may have it but have not yet been diagnosed, there are resources you can use to make sure you get a confirmed diagnosis.

2.    Research. Take some time to find as much out as possible about fibromyalgia and available treatment options.

3.    Ask a doctor’s advice.
See what sort of treatment plan your doctor wants you on and then follow those instructions perfectly.

4.    Change your diet. An adjustment in diet can make a massive difference in how you feel. If you want to reduce your symptoms, chances are you need to change what you eat.

5.    Change your lifestyle. Now is the time to make lifestyle changes.

My next dr appointment is on wednesday and i guess ill find out then but just curious what others are taking?
Which work the best?
accupuncture is not an option….insurance does not cover that.
And yes my dr diagnosed me with it. this question is directed towards people who have it….others wouldnt understand. Thanks.

Lyrica has helped the most with controlling flare-ups. Good Luck getting any real pain relief if your young and your doctr doesn't believe in opiods. I'm 24, but over a year my doctor got to know me and my medication tolerance, and she has rescribed vicoden, percocet, and more, but it never really takes the pain away. Good Luck!
